Your Experience

”If you want to run fast, run alone.

If you want to run far, run together”

Icebug Xperience Mountain Trail Weekend

The Icebug Xperience Weekend is a concept that suits everybody. You can run it or hike it. Together with our guides you will hike/run in small groups in a pace that fits you. Over three days we will explore the best mountain trails that Gaustablikk/Rjukan has to offer, with a friend, with your kids or with your colleagues. Either way, you’ll have the time of your life.

Explore a unique landscape.

The Icebug Xperience Mountain Trail Weekend takes place at Rjukan, which is an absolutely stunning place. It offers a wide range of environments, with everything from wide open mountains to narrow forest trails. We can assure you that hiking or running up to six hours a day in this stunning environment is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Take your time.

We have two big recommendations to people visiting the Icebug Xperience events. Number one is to use shoes with great traction – but hey, that’s our day job! The second recommendation is not to stress. We assure you will get the best experience if you let yourself enjoy the stages.

Bring your friends.

We want the Icebug Xperience Weekend to be something that you share with the ones you love most. So: bring your friends! There is plenty of accommodation at Gaustablikk, either Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell or Gaustatoppen Booking with cosy cabins. So: bring your friends! Or find some new ones here.

Mountain Memories.

The Norwegian mountains are something special. They're easy to fall in love with and almost impossible to leave. At Icebug Xperience Mountain Trail Weekend, we've taken the best mountain routes in the area Rjukan, and put them together for a unique 3-day trail camp. Get ready for some top-class trails and sceneries you will remember for the rest of your life.

3 days, 55 km.

The trail camp covers approximately 55 km during three days. As always at an Icebug Xperience, it's not about competing – it's about collecting memories.

We have experienced hiking/running guides. The running groups will not have more than 10 participants and the hiking groups will have a max of 15 participants. We will have a fast paced hiking group that fits more experienced hikers.

You can do it at your own pace - either that means you will be running it fast in narrow trail running shoes or walk it with hiking boots, backpack and trekking poles.

For your safety, there are some things that you have to bring during the race. Due to the terrain in the mountains there will be no water/energy stations. You are able to drink fresh mountain water from creeks and springs at your own risk (it’s possible to purify the water, but it is not common to do so before drinking in Scandinavian mountains), and our hiking/running leaders will have some energy to give in case you run out of energy.

Below is a minimum of what you need to bring to the start of each stage. If you know that you require a lot of energy and water when hiking/running this far, be sure to bring the amount you need to have a pleasant day in the mountains. If you are in a hiking group, it’s recommended that you pack sandwiches.

Mandatory kit for EACH participant:

  • Water for 30 kilometers (minimum 1 litre)
  • Energy (energy bar, energy gel etc. Minimum 800 kcal)
  • Extra shell jacket
  • Extra sweater with long sleeves (minimum weight 200g, wool is recommended)
  • Shell pants (wind and waterproof)
  • First aid kit (blood stopper/plasters and bandages)
  • Fold-a-cup (to use at the mountain springs – provided in your starting kit)
  • Cell phone with at least 80% charge

NOTE 1: We will conduct random checks of participants’ gear before start. If the entire mandatory equipment is not packed, the participant will not be allowed to start. The equipment is mandatory for each participant. Even if you hike/run in pairs you must both have the complete kit when starting.

NOTE 2: WE DON’T LEAVE ANY DISPOSALS IN THE NATURE! And if we find any trash during our hike/run we stop and pick it up…

Financial, social and environmental sustainability is something we really care about at Icebug Xperience. We want our events to grow organically together with the area. We work with local entrepreneurs, and our vision is for everything consumed at the event to be made from organic, locally produced ingredients. We also want to take care of the environment in the area, thus most of the trails follows existing paths. We bring back all our garbage from the trails and we don’t use any disposable cups. If we find any trash during our hike/run we stop to pick it up.

We highly recommend Climate-smart travelling to our events. Book a seat on our bus from Gothenburg or share a car with your friends. If you compensate your trip directly when you sign up for your Xperience, Icebug will match your compensation with the same amount. To climate compensate means to reduce, avoid or remove the same amount (or more) of greenhouse gas emissions as the emissions caused by your travel. Icebug compensates by financing UN certified climate projects, see Climate Neutral Now. Of course climate compensating is only the tip of the iceberg, and our main focus is to reduce climate emissions in the daily work of making more sustainable shoes.

Read more about Icebugs sustainability work.
