Buddies

Ramsvik rests on traditional ground. It all began in 1958. Since then we have continued to attract visitors looking for a sense of freedom and fun activities in an unbeatable costal setting. Walk, fish, run. Canoe, climb, dive. Take photos, watch birds. Or simply sit on a rock and take in the beautiful surroundings.

Afterwards you sleep in one of our cottages, to the sound of lapping waves, as far west as you can get in Sweden.

Johannesvik is located in a scenic valley among the beautiful mountains of Bohuslän, near Smögen/Kungshamn. We have 350 campsite pitches and 40 cottages. The area consists of alternating meadows and woodland surrounded by mountains and sea.
For those of you who wish to exercise we offer nice trails and hiking paths connected to the facility. Our five service facilities contain all the equipment you could wish for at a facility of top class. Johannesvik is open all year round and offers something for all ages, we have a wide range of activities on the facility and in the surrounding area.

We offer boat trips in the beautiful archipelago of Sotenäs. The service is for small and large companies alike. Our main route in summer is between Kungshamn on the mainland to the Island of Smögen but we also offer trips to other destinations. The maximum amount of passengers we can bring on our three boats amounts to 100. The price of each trip and the number of persons we can bring depends on the type of arrangement. We operate from Easter to Halloween.

Aktivut is the Swedish/Norwegian event managing company behind the scenes in a several different outdoor events around Scandinavia. We have all the special knowledgement that is required to prepare and perform safe, top quality outdoor events with trekking, trailrunning, ski touring, kayaking, canoeing etc. We also love to participate in outdoor events and nature activities our selves and you will find us in the slope, on the mountain or the sea…… if we are not in the office. To perform the events we have a big group of fantastic volunteers that help us out.

Vann is a four-star spa and conference hotel, located 23 kilometers northeast of the town of Lysekil, just an hour’s drive from Gothenburg. The hotel is set in a nature reserve and our nearest neighbour is the Gullmar Fjord, Sweden’s first marine conservation area. The Hotel has a 1000m2 SPA area. VANN´s surroundings display much of our way of thinking and being here at VANN. We welcome you to a place which embraces the water as the source of life, and that speaks its very own design and material language. We envelop our guests in a magical web of water and unique experiences. We gently guide you from water to sauna, from feeling stressed and worn out to feeling harmonious, well rested, and full of energy.
The hotel’s location next to the sea and the forest invites you to try various activities such as kayaking, running on the trail, a relaxing moment in the woods. Or why not exercise in our outdoor gym or on our obstacle course.

Economical, social, and environmental sustainability is something we really care about at Icebug Xperience West Coast Trail. We want the event to grow organically together with the area, to market Bohuslän as an all year-destination. We work with local entrepreneurs and our vision is that everything consumed at the event is made with organic, locally produced ingredients. We also want to take care of the environment in the area. Most of the race, therefor, follows existing coastal paths and trails, and we place garbage bins during the course. The use of single plastics is banned in every Icebug Xperience. We also inform our participants about the Swedish Right of Public Access and the importance of respecting it.

We highly recommend Climate-smart traveling to our events. Take the train to Munkedal and get picked up by our shuttle buses, book a seat on our bus from Gothenburg, or share a car with your friends. If you compensate your trip directly when you sign up for your Xperience, Icebug will match your compensation with the same amount. To climate compensate means to reduce, avoid or remove the same amount (or more) of greenhouse gas emissions as the emissions caused by your travel. Icebug compensates by financing UN-certified climate projects, see Climate Neutral Now. Of course, climate compensating is only the tip of the iceberg, and our main focus is to reduce climate emissions in the daily work of making more sustainable shoes.

Read more about Icebugs sustainability work.

THE BOHUSLÄN COAST – YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS!

The Bohuslän coast runs almost 280 kilometres along western Sweden, from the city of Gothenburg all the way up to Norway. There are 8,000 islands off the coast and up until about a century ago the people of the coast and island relied on the humble arts of herring fishing and quarrying rock to make a living. Those are the hard facts – now comes the really good stuff.

The coastline is packed with small fishing villages tucked in between the smooth granite rock. These are perfect stops for sun bathing, swimming and perhaps a spot of crab fishing. If you are staying longer you can book self-guided and guided kayaking tours of some of the islands, including Kosterhavet National Park which is Sweden’s first marine national park. It includes the beautiful and car-free Koster and other islands were you can spot seals lolling in the waves or on the rocks, do a bit of island hopping, or even swim a ”snorkel trail” and spot some of the plants and creatures that live here.

Down by the harbour in the towns of Grebbestad, Fjällbacka and Strömstad local fisherman would be only too happy to take you out to bait and haul in lobster (from end September), langoustine and crab (best thing is that on most of these trips you get to taste or buy some of the spoils). For fishermen and fisherwomen (this is Sweden after all), on the river Öreskilsälvan there could be a large salmon with your name on it, while in the waters offshore the first sea trout of the season is waiting to be hooked.

A truly fabulous way of experiencing the Bohuslän coast and inland is by hiking or cycling. You can walk or cycle Kuststigen (the coast trail) and the 370 kilometre long Bohusleden, that starts in Gothenburg in the south and stretches all the way to the seaside town of Strömstad in the north.

Sotenäs – a part of Bohuslän

In Sotenäs you’ll find picturesque Bovallstrand, granite centre of Hunnebostrand, town centre Kungshamn and the islands Smögen and Malmön.

The magnificent archipelago and barren cliffs best experienced by taking a part in activities at or by the sea – such as boating, hiking, climbing and of course sunbathing and swimming.

An important part of your stay in our district is our cuisine. Close by the sea and surrounded by a rich country side, we have the best of primary products at our disposal, and some of the world’s best seafood!

We do not refund starting tickets but allow changing a participant’s name on registration free of charge. The person wishing to replace their registered name is responsible for finding their own replacement.

Note that it is only possible to change a participant’s name up to 10 days before the race takes place, or 1 day before the registration closes, whichever comes first.

Registration closes on August 15th, 2021.

The price includes an administrative fee of 200 SEK which is not refunded in case of cancellation.

Please read our General Terms for more information.

Can I run with my dog?
Yes, but out of respect for other runners, you will need to keep it on a leash.

What time does my group start?
Please see the ”Schedule” tab for all important times.

I have my own car, can I still use the shuttle bus?
Yes! In the morning, park your car at the finish of the stage. Take the shuttle to the start area and run/walk back to the finish, where your car will be waiting.

Can I sign up for just one of the stages?
No, registration is only possible for all 3 stages of Icebug Xperience. You can choose to run one day and walk another – just be sure to change this at the race office before the start of each stage. You can choose not to participate in all stages but will not have a ”total time” unless you complete all 3 stages. Changing starting groups will also result in no total time.

Is there transportation to start from Vann 2021?

In 2021 there will not be any transportation from or to Vann. If you stay at Vann read ”I have my own car, can I still use the shuttle bus?”

If you want to be a part of this event but don’t want to run you can apply as a volunteer.

Please fill out the form (in Swedish) that you will find here.

The Stages

It’s a diverse course, including everything from huge cliffs to narrow forest trails. The course follows the ocean and you will see old fisherman’s villages, heaths, canyons, and a huge amount of red-colored granite rocks. Three stages – three different Xperiences.

Each course is marked with red/white markers/stripes. There are distance signs every second kilometer and 2-3 stations with water and energy drinks located during each stage. At almost every drink station you will find a toilet.

Your Xperience

”If you want to run fast, run alone.

If you want to run far, run together”

Make your own xperience.

Icebug Xperience suits everybody. You can run it or walk it. Alone, with a friend, with your kids or with your colleagues. Stay in a seaside cabin or at a spa hotel, bring your caravan, a house boat or a tent to enjoy the full power of the Swedish right of public access. Either way, you’ll have the time of your life.

Explore a unique landscape.

Icebug Xperience is located in Bohuslän, which according to us is the most beautiful place in the world. You can find an endless amount of trail races that take place in forests or mountains, but we don’t know any other race where you can inhale the seabreeze while running or walking along the cliffs with the salty ocean water splashing against your face. We can assure you that walking or running up to six hours a day in this stunning environment is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Take your time.

We have two big recommendations to people visiting Icebug Xperience. Number one is to use shoes with great traction – but hey, that’s our day job! The second recommendation is not to stress. We assure you will get the best experience if you let yourself enjoy the stages, instead of chasing times. We take care of everything for you, so you can do what you love most. We can help you with accommodation, food and even take care of your kids while you’re collecting memories in the wilderness.

You won’t leave hungry.

The only thing better than a running session is the meal after the running session – so we put food trucks at the finish line each day to provide our participants with the best food the Swedish west coast has to offer. Get ready to savour some high quality fresh vegetables, seafood and meat. All food is produced by professional chefs and made by organic and locally produced ingredients.

Bring your kids.

Icebug Xperience is an event for the whole family and our mission is for every kid to leave Bohuslän with the same excitement as you. Your kids will have the possibility to go fishing, kayaking, geocaching and a lot of other wonderful outdoor activities. We also assure you your kids will be in safe hands under the supervision of our experienced outdoor guides.

Bring your friends.

We want Icebug Xperience to be something that you share with the ones you love most. So: bring your friends! The official race village at Ramsvik offers a lot of seaside cabins, which is a great place to share accommodation with your friends or family. So: bring your friends! Or find some new ones here.

Sustainability

Sustainability is something we really care about at Icebug Xperience West Coast Trail. We want the event to grow organically together with the area, to market Bohuslän as an all year-destination. We work with local entrepreneurs and our vision is that everything consumed at the event is made by organic and locally produced ingredients. In 2021 we will skip the meat and provide tastefully vegetarian lunchboxes during all three days!

West Sweden Action Weeks

West Coast Trail is a part of West Sweden Action Weeks.

West Sweden Action Weeks (WSAW) collects races for those who run, paddle, cycle, swim or roller ski. WSAW offer experiences and environments in western Sweden that amaze those who participate.
